Turkish Delegation for Y20 India 2023 Summit is Ready

The Republic of Turkey will be represented at the Y20 India Summit by Deniz BARAN, Ebru GURBUZ, Halil KASAPOGLU, Ömer Ergün ÖZKAN and Dilruba Zeynep KALIN ALABAB. We congratulate our delegates and wish them a successful Summit!

Deniz BARANHead of Turkish Delegation – Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Delegate
Deniz Baran is a faculty member at Istanbul University International Law Department, while he is a lawyer registered to the Istanbul Bar Association, focusing on providing legal consultancy for foreign investors in Turkey.

He is a public international law PhD candidate at Istanbul University, the university where he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Baran used to coordinate International Law Research Center (UHAM) which is affiliated to Fatih Sultan Mehmet University. He used to work as international law specialist for Al Sharq Forum as well. 

He has previously conducted numerous international youth projects as Turkey&Balkans Regional Coordinator of Al Sharq Youth, the Chairman of Istanbul Youth Assembly Foreign Affairs Commission, the Turkish Delegate for Y20 2016 China Summit and the Deputy Chair of YCDC (Youth Commission of Diplomacy and Colloboration).

With a keen interest in media, he has taken up writing articles regarding the legal matters for various media outlets such as Al Jazeera, Middle East Eye, Perspektif Online,Serbestiyet and Anadolu Agency.
Halil KASAPOGLUHealth, Wellbeing and Sports Delegate
After graduating from Istanbul University Law School, Mr. Kasapoglu completed his internship at one of Turkey’s most prestigious law firms and he received his LL.M Degree in International Business Law from the University of Minnesota. He participated in the Türkiye-Mediterranean Youth Peace Ship as a volunteer. During his law practice in the United States, he practiced corporate law as an in-house counsel for a multinational network of sports channels. He passed New York Bar Exam and had been admitted to the New York Bar Association in 2020. He had worked as a corporate lawyer at a top-tier Turkish law firm for two years right after he returned to
Turkey.

In 2022, he started his own law practice in Istanbul and his practice mainly concentrates on corporate law, contracts law, commercial law, media and entertainment law, and sports law. He advises and represents companies especially those corporated in common-law countries on various subjects including mergers&acquisitons, joint ventures, contract drafting, and private equity transactions. Mr. Kasapoglu advises international media networks on production and rights acquisitons, corporate issues, staging and exploiting live sports, content and advertising regulations. He also offers insights on the disputes among sports federations, clubs, and players and provides a full range of business legal services to the emerging esports industry.
Ebru GURBUZPeacebuilding and Reconciliation Delegate
Ebru Gurbuz is a first year undergraduate pursuing a single honours degree in History at the University of Cambridge, King’s College. Ebru has completed all of her education in the UK, achieved A*AA in her A Levels and received a diploma in Latin. She has participated in regional debate competitions throughout her high school years, as well as playing an active role as Student Representative for interview panels and fundraising for charities. Ebru is reading a LAP course in German alongside her studies. 

Ebru enjoys meeting new people people of diverse backgrounds and engaging in stimulating discussions. She is pursuing a position on The Cambridge Union’s committee as a publicity officer. Ebru is passionate about aiding other young people in reaching their goals and increasing accessibility to educational institutions. She tutors high school students in English and History. She has experience working at a dementia care facility, having a direct, positive impact on patients. Ebru has a love of literature, and previously had her work published in a Young Writers competition. She can speak English and Turkish. 
Ömer Ergün ÖZKANFuture of Work Delegate
Ömer Ergün Özkan graduated from Middle East Technical University and Binghamton University with a dual diploma in Global and International Affairs as a valedictorian. In addition to his degrees, he has completed a minor in history. During his undergraduate studies, he joined the Turkish national unmanned aerial vehicle development program as an intern and continued as a foreign strategy specialist after earning his degrees. To exercise his experience gathered in the field, he pursued a master’s degree at the University of British Columbia and conducted studies under the supervision of Dr. Michael Byers on the emerging trends for the operationalization of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Currently, Özkan is pursuing his studies toward a doctoral degree at the University of Cincinnati. His current research focuses on the strategic operationalization of unmanned aerial vehicles in hybrid warfare and the implications of state-industry relations on national technological development initiatives. He also participates in a book project that aims to draw connections with the Prussian military school and the recent trends in the weaponization of media organs. In addition to his studies, he partakes in various university-level teaching positions as a graduate assistant and graduate instructor. Ömer Ergün Özkan is fluent in English and Italian.
Dilruba Zeynep KALIN ALABAB Peacebuilding and Reconciliation Delegate
Dilruba graduated from Bilkent University, International Relations with high honors, in 2020. During her university life, she actively took place in youth politics, several NGOs, and student clubs. During her internship at a prominent Turkish think-tank branch in Brussels, she gained experience in research, writing reports, preparing presentations, and closely following up on news. She has worked in the Middle East Office at the highly selective internship program of the Foreign Ministry of Türkiye and increased her knowledge and interest in the region. Additionally, she participated in many organizations including MUN, IRI, and NATO stimulation. She visited many IOs like the UN, EU, ICJ, and NATO. She had the opportunity to visit many countries in the Middle East and Europe. Right after graduation, she continued her Arabic education, which started in Tunisia, in Qatar. After completing the B2 level, she got accepted to Gulf Studies master’s and is currently continuing her program. While studying, she has been a part of important international organizations such as the World Cup Qatar 2022 and the UNLDC5 conference and has gained significant experience and knowledge.
